Sick and tired of Sickle Cell

Tahir "Stayfresh" Ali

September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month. Sickle Cell is a blood disorder that predominantly affects African Americans. The Sickle Cell disease causes red blood cells to become misshapen and breakdown. With Sickle Cell Disease, the red blood cells contort into a sickle shape. The cells die early, leaving a small amount of healthy red blood cells and can block blood flow causing pain. This is something that Stayfresh knows all about.

Stayfresh is an Executive Producer, Manager and a businessman who defines the true definition of a person who grinds and hustles. He combined the two words to coin phrase the slogan, "Grustle lifestyle".

Stayfresh has worked with some of the biggest and brightest names in the industry, and has done so for over a decade with class, respect and dignity. He praises God everyday and puts his best foot forward, but under that heroic smile, is the pain from Sickle Cell that makes him disquieted. His unsettling nature comes from knowing that only 4% out of 22 million people listed on the registry are African American which makes it extremely hard to find a match for a stem cell transplant.

Black or African-American patients only have a 23% chance of finding a match compared to 77% for White patients.
